President:Dr. Lydia Hartunian has a Ph.D. in philosophy of mind from the Graduate Center with the City University of New York. She currently resides in Iowa and teaches interdisciplinary humanities classes at Kirkwood Community College and is the faculty advisor for a student SSA group.
Dr. Hartunian is the founder and director of THE GREAT AMERICAN GOD-OUT!–an annual lecture series/celebration in November that encourages people to learn about godless living and critical thinking skills. (See “Play the Game” at www.godout.org.)
Nov. 15, 2007 marked the first ever GREAT AMERICAN GOD-OUT! celebration in New York City and featured many distinguished guests including Dr. Michael Shermer of Skeptic Magazine, Ellen Johnson of American Atheist, Margaret Downey of Atheist Alliance International, Fred Edwords of American Humanist–members of the Secular Coalition of America–and many more!
Dr. Lydia is also the founder and director of an improvizational theater group, A.T.N.O.W., and an author. Her article “Fashion Adivice From the Anti-Christ” will be featured in Fashion Statements (SUNY PRESS) and her book, THE GREAT AMERICAN GOD-OUT!–The Ultimate American Experiment is forthcoming.
